History of Blockhouse Bay Dental Centre

The Dental Centre was established in the rapidly developing suburb of Blockhouse Bay in 1958. It was located in rooms at the rear of the service station, at the roundabout on the corner of Heaphy Street and Blockhouse Bay Road. In 1965, the then owner Dr Jack Barnes invited Dr Richard Gross to join him, and for many years the practice was know as Barnes and Gross Dental Surgery. In 1967 they relocated next door to the present site at 3A Heaphy Street. The philosophy of the Practice was, and still is, to provide the best quality dentistry and service, in comfortable friendly surroundings.

Over the years there have been many changes. Additional dentists were employed to attend to the needs of the expanding population, regular redecoration and upgrade of facilities occurred as well as ongoing purchase and replacement of equipment to be able to continually provide the latest in dental treatment technology.

Following Dr Barnes’ retirement in 1991, the practice was fully owned by Dr Gross and became known as the Blockhouse Bay Dental Centre. In 1995 Dr Peter Raymond joined the Practice. Dr Raymond becoming a partner the following year.  On the retirement of Dr Gross in 2000, Dr Raymond became the principal and he was joined by Dr Haydn Gray.

2005 saw the completion of an extensive refurbishment of the practice.

In 2008 Dr Anna Dawson joined the practice after her return from working in the UK.
