Porcelain Crowns
These crowns have a substructure of a metal alloy (precious or non-precious metal) to which porcelains have been fused at high temperature to create an exceptionally strong restoration. The dental technician adds many different layers of porcelain and colour to make a perfect a match as possible to the adjacent teeth in your mouth.
A thin line of metal maybe visible on the inside surface of the crown at the gum level.
Metal Free Ceramic Crowns
For those people who have allergies to certain metals or who want the ultimate in aesthetics ie. no possibility of even a fine metal line at the margin, then metal-free ceramic crowns are the solution.
Their preparation is essentially the same but the technician uses highly sophisticated materials and techniques to create the crown. They are as strong and as durable as the traditional bonded metal crowns.
Gold Crowns
Gold crowns have been used for centuries. For patients who are not concerned about the appearance of gold in the back teeth, they remain an excellent option. In some situations there is a clear indication for the use of a gold crown. These include:
- Little space available due to the over-eruption of an opposing tooth
