Dental Benefits Scheme

What is the Dental Benefits Scheme?

This is a scheme provided by the government for the free dental treatment of adolescents. It pays for a dental examination each year.

Who is entitled to the Scheme?

Adolescents from Form 3, (age12 to 13yrs), who are residents of New Zealand. The individual is covered under this scheme until their eighteenth birthday.

Does the Scheme cover all treatments?

No, it covers basic dental treatment only. It only pays for silver fillings in back teeth. However at Blockhouse Bay Dental Centre in some situations (at the dentist's discretion), we are able to place small white fillings at no charge. If you want white fillings for your child please discuss this with us. We are able to do these privately at a reduced fee charge.

The Dental Benefits Scheme does not cover:

  • Braces or orthodontic treatment
  • Treatment required as a result of an accident

How do I enrol my Child?

Call into the practice (or telephone 627 9970) and request your child be enrolled in the Dental Benefits Scheme. We will need you to complete and sign the enrolment form and then your child is registered. Please note that the scheme only allows your child to be registered with one dental practice. Please ask our staff if you wish to change your child's enrolment from another practice to Blockhouse Bay Dental Centre.
