A beautiful smile, not just beautiful teeth
Dysport , Radiesse and Restylane are as essential to aesthetic dentistry as porcelain veneers and composite white fillings. The soft tissues around the mouth are as important as the color and position of the teeth.

In determining the patient's smile, we as dentists, have become so tooth-centric that we forget that it is very important for the perioral areas to look as good as the teeth.
This concept of framing the smile properly is essential in order to perform a
complete smile analysis and any associated aesthetic treatment. How many
times have you seen an aesthetic dental case involving beautifully restored teeth that are left surrounded by wrinkled and thin lips, and deep nasolabial (nose to mouth) folds? Perhaps the patient has been given beautiful teeth but not a completed and beautiful smile. At Blockhouse Bay Dental Centre , we offer a range of facial cosmetic services to take keep you looking young and healthy. Dr. Kathleen Sandberg is one of a few dentists in Auckland qualified to provide these services.
Radiesse is a dermal filler that provides long lasting results. Once Radiesse is injected, it smooths wrinkles and also stimulates the skin's own production of collagen. Radiesse is safe and highly effective. It is one of the most commonly used dermal fillers/sculpting agents to be used for facial restoration in the mid to lower face.

Dysport (botulism treatment) is now available for dental needs. At Blockhouse Bay Dental Centre, we use both night guards (traditional method) as well as Dysport to help with "bruxism". Bruxism is the habit of grinding and clenching the teeth which can lead to sore jaw muscles, fractured teeth and headaches. Many patients don't even realize they are doing this, as it most often occurs during sleep.
Most patients respond very well to Dysport and find that most, if not all of their grinding and clenching concerns subside over time. Dysport works by relaxing, or paralyzing the jaw muscles that become over used and stressed. There are no effects for normal activities, such as chewing and swallowing and most patients notice that they look better, as they have reduced "jowls". Dysport is also very useful to reduce a "gummy smile", where too much gum tissue shows above the upper teeth during the smiling/laughing process.
